CN Blue (Korean씨엔블루 Japanese: シーエヌブルー ), stylized as CNBLUE, are a South Korean rock band formed in Seoul in 2009. The band consists of Jung Yong Hwa (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Lee Jong Hyun (lead guitar, vocals), Lee Jung Shin (bass guitar, vocals) and Kang Min Hyuk (drums, vocals). "CN is an abbreviation of ‘Code Name’ while BLUE is an abbreviation of the members’ individual images," said by one of the members. ‘Burning’ represents Lee Jong Hyun, ‘Lovely’ represents Kang Minhyuk, ‘Untouchable’ represents Lee Jung Shin, and ‘Emotional’ represents Jung Yong Hwa. Debuted on 19 August 2009 in Japan with the band's first mini albumNow or Never. They were coined as the "2nd FT Island". The group released four teasers for their 1st album Bluetory, starring one member per each of the videos in the sequence of Jonghyun, Minhyuk, Jungshin and lastly, Yonghwa on the 6th, 8th, 11th and 13 January respectively. On 14 January, CN Blue debuted their first mini-album with the lead single "I'm a Loner" (Korean외톨이야).

2009: Indie boy band in Japan, Now or Never, and Voice

In mid-June 2009, CN Blue began to perform on the streets and in live clubs in Japan.[1] As an indie band, they formally debuted on August 19, 2009 with Now or Never. The mini album was recorded completely in English, and failed to chart on the Japanese national music chart. Later, in November, the second extended play was released entitled VoiceVoice peaked at position 227, and stayed on the Oricon for two weeks, and was recorded mostly in English but also in Japanese. Also that year former Bassist Kwon Kwang Jin left CN Blue in late September after the release of CN Blue's first mini album. Kwang Jin was replaced by Lee Jungshin later that year.

[edit]2010: Korean debut, ThankU, and other activities

In January, FNC Music unveiled new teaser pictures for CN Blue's debut in South KoreaBluetory was released on January 14, 2010. It stayed at the top of the Gaon Chart for two weeks. "I'm a Loner" (Korean외톨이야) was promoted as the title track. The song peaked at number two, solidifying their break into the industry. The group had their first televised live stage onKBS Music Bank on January 15. Later, on January 29, the group won their first music show chart win on Music Bank.
The group debuted their new reality show on Korean music channel Mnet, titled "CN Bluetory," on February 10. In March, the band started preparations for their first full length albumThankU. It was released on March 20, 2010, with only one new track. The album peaked at number 90 on the Oricon charts, their highest thus far. Later, in April, their official fanclub name was announced as BOICE, a combination of "blue" and "voice."
CN Blue headed back to Korea in May and released their next promotional single, "Love Light" (Korean사랑 빛), on May 10, 2010. The song peaked at number 10 on the Korean national chart and foreshadowed their upcoming release. On May 19, the second extended play was released, named Bluelove. It was promoted with the track "Love," which charted at number 2, matching the success the band found earlier with "I'm a Loner." Bluelove peaked at number 3, but stayed on the chart for many weeks. CN Blue held their comeback stage on M!Countdown the following day.
After success in Korea, the band headed back to Japan. They released their first single "The Way" on June 23. For the first time, they charted within the Oricon top 40 at number 26. The release was followed by "I Don't Know Why" on September 16 the same year. The song reached number eight on the Oricon daily chart, marking the first time the band made it inside the top 10. On the weekly chart, they peaked at number 15. On the Japanese indie top chart, the band reached number one.[2] The band embarked on a small tour across Japan in order to promote the single.[3]
CN Blue members Kang Min Hyuk and Lee Jong Hyun will star in the Korean movie "Acoustic." They released a song from the OST on October 7 entitled "High Fly" that peaked at number 98 on the Gaon Chart.[4]

]2011: Re-maintenance First Step 392 and In my Head

On January 9, they released their 3rd Japanese single, Re-maintenance. They started off their 2011 Japanese promotions with a Zepp Tour in 4 cities: Osaka, Fukuoka, Nagoya and Tokyo from January 9–16.[5]
FNC Music, their entertainment agency in South Korea, released teasers for a CN Blue comeback for February in 2011.[6] However, it was later changed to a March 21 release date.[7]The teaser was noted for having a "more of the same departure from their pop rock sound into a heavier concept.

SHINee (샤이니, stylized as SHINee, pronounced /ˈʃaɪniː/ "'shine-ee'" Japanese: シャイニー) is a contemporary R&B South Korean boy band.[1] Formed by SM Entertainment in 2008, they made their debut on May 25, 2008 on SBS's Inkigayo with their promotional single, "Noona Neomu Yeppeo (Replay)" ("누난 너무 예뻐 (Replay)", lit. "Noona, You're So Pretty (Replay)"). The group consists of OnewJonghyun,KeyMinho and Taemin.
Since their debut, SHINee has released two full-length albums, three mini-albums, and various singles. They have also won many awards, held a concert tour and starred in their own reality shows. SHINee is considered to be a fashion icon having started the "SHINee Trend".[2] They made their Japanese debut in June 22, 2011 by releasing a Japanese version of their single, "Replay"

2008: Debut and The SHINee World

On May 25, 2008, the group's first mini-albumReplay was released from Label company, SM Entertainment.[2] The mini-album debuted at #10 on the Korean music charts and peaked at #8, selling 17,957 copies in the first half of 2008.[4]
On June 7, 2008, SHINee participated in the Dream Concert in the Seoul Olympic Stadium along with other South Korean singers and groups.[5][6] The group won their first award, "Rookie of the Month", at the Cyworld Digital Music Awards on June 22, 2008.[7] Shinee took part in SMTown Live '08, which was held on August 18, 2008 at Seoul Olympic Stadium.[8]On August 23, 2008, they attended MNet's 20's Choice Awards 2008, where they won the "Hot New Star" award.[9]
SHINee released their first full-length album, The SHINee World, on August 28, 2008.[10] The album debuted on the charts at #3, selling 30,000 copies.[11] The first single released from the album was "Sanso Gateun Neo (Love Like Oxygen)", a cover of "Show the World" by Martin Hoberg Hedegaard,[12] originally written by the Danish songwriting and production team ofThomas TroelsenRemee and Lucas Secon.[13] On September 18, 2008, SHINee's "Sanso Gateun Neo (Love Like Oxygen)" was the No. 1 song on M! Countdown.[14] A few days later, SHINee received the "Mutizen" award for the same single on SBS's Popular Songs.
Shinee participated in the 5th Asia Song Festival, where they received the "Best New Artist" award with Japanese girl group, Berryz Kobo.[15]The group attended the 2008 Style Icon Awards on October 30, 2008, where they won the "Best Style Icon Award".[16] On the same day, a repackage album of The SHINee World titled Amigo was released. The re-packaged album contained three new songs: "Forever or Never", a remix of "Sa. Gye. Han (Love Should Go On)" (사.계.한) and the promotional single "Amigo" (아.미.고).[17] "Amigo" is a shortened version of the Korean phrase "Areumdaun Minyeorueljoahamyeon Gosaenghanda" (아름다운 미녀를 좋아하면 고생한다 lit. Heart Aches When You Fall In Love With a Beauty).[13]
On November 15, 2008, SHINee won the "Best Male Rookie" award at the 10th annual MNet's KM Music Festival, beating fellow newcomers U-KISS2PM2AM and Mighty Mouth.[18] At the 23rd Annual Golden Disk Awards, they performed a medley of their songs and won the award for "YEPP Newcomer Album".[19]

2009: Romeo and 2009, Year of Us

In early February, 2009, SHINee won "Best Newcomer" award along with Davichi and Mighty Mouth at the 18th Seoul Music Awards.[20] Later, SM Entertainment announced that SHINee would make their comeback with their second mini album Romeo on May 21, 2009.[21] On May 18, "Juliette", the first single was released,[22] an instrumental remake of Corbin Bleu's "Deal with It".[23] It was later announced that their comeback was going to be delayed due to Onew damaging his teeth and the release of the mini-album was pushed back to May 25, 2009.[22][24] SHINee eventually had their return performance on June 5, 2009, on KBS's Music Bank, where they received the award for first place.[25]
The group released their third mini-album, 2009, Year Of Us, on October 19, 2009, five months after the release of Romeo. SM Entertainment stated that this EP would showcase the group's vocals and demonstrate their unique qualities.[26][27] The lead single, "Ring Ding Dong", was released digitally on October 14; the group had their comeback stage on October 16, on KBS's Music Bank.[28] In early December, 2009, Shinee won the "Popularity" award along with fellow labelmate group, Super Junior, at the 24th Golden Disk Awards.[29] In February, 2010, the group won the main "BonSang" award at the 19th Seoul Music Awards.[30] In December, Shinee also started promoting their song "Jo Jo" with live performances on local music programs.

[edit]2010: Lucifer and first concert

SM Entertainment revealed individual photo teasers of each member for the new album starting with Minho on July 8, 2010 and ending with Key on July 12. The teaser for the music videoof lead single was released on July 14, 2010 at the official channel of SM Entertainment on YouTube.[31] The group was originally set to have their comeback stage on KBS Music Bank, July 16, to begin their promotions for the new album, however,[32] due to Minho injuring his ankle during a Dream Team 2 filming on July 8, the comeback was postponed to July 23, 2010.[33]
The second full length studio album, entitled Lucifer, was released on July 19, 2010 in South Korea. The music video promoting the lead single, also named "Lucifer", was released on the same day.[34] Within hours of the release, the album topped various physical and digital sales charts in South Korea.[35] The songs on the album "were more carefully selected than ever", and the album is said to "[give] listeners a great chance to experience the diverse musical characters and more mature vocal skills of the members."[36] The group made their comeback on July 23, 2010 at KBS Music Bank.[33] Choreography of the Lucifer was released on the same YouTube channel on August 3, 2010.[37] The studio album was re-released a repackaged version, entitled Hello, on October 1, 2010. The music video of the promotional single, also named "Hello", was released on October 4, 2010. The re-released version included three new tracks.
Amidst their promotional activities for the second studio album, the group also participated in the SMTown Live '10 World Tour alongside their label-mates. On August 21, 2010, they performed in a concert at Seoul Olympic Stadium in Seoul.[38] On September 4, 2010, they also performed at a concert at Staples Center in Los Angeles.[39] Later, on September 11, 2010, SHINee also participated in a concert at Hongkou Stadium in Shanghai.[40]
On December 26, 2010, SHINee started their Shinee World tour, by holding their first concert at Yoyogi National Gymnasium in Tokyo. The event was attended by a total audience of approximately 24,000 attendees. The group also announced that they will be releasing their first Japanese language studio release in 2011 under EMI Music Japan, record label known for the famous million-selling Japanese-American singer-songwriter Hikaru Utada.[3]

On January 1, 2011, SHINee performed in a concert at Olympic Park Stadium in Seoul as a part of their tour, Shinee World. On January 2, 2011, before the second running of the concert in Seoul, SHINee held a press conference. The group answered many questions related to their future plans, announcing that in March 2011 they will be debuting in Japan, and the members also reflected on their success in 2010. On January 25 and 26, 2011, the group once again participated in the Japan leg of SMTown Live '10 World Tour alongside their fellow labelmates and particpated in two concerts at Yoyogi National Gymnasium in Tokyo.
On May 16, 2011, EMI Music Japan revealed a teaser for the Japanese version of "Replay" through their official YouTube channel. The music video was released through the same channel on May 27, 2011.[41] The single was released in Japan on June 22, 2011 and sold more than 91,000 copies in the first week. It was certified 'Gold' by RIAJ for selling over 100,000 copies in June 2011.[42]
On June 10 and 11, 2011, SHINee once again participated in the France leg of SMTown Live '10 World Tour alongside their fellow labelmates and performed at two concerts in Paris atZenith de Paris. On June 19, SHINee had their premium Japanese debut reception in London at the Abbey Road Studios. Their showcase was exclusive only to 130 selected people, most of which were from the press. Fans that couldn't go inside the venue had to wait outside the studios.[citation needed] On July 16, 2011, SHINee performed in a concert at Taipei Arenain Taipei as a part of their Taiwan leg of Shinee World tour. R&B singer and fellow labelmate Zhang Liyin appeared as a special guest and sang a duet with Jonghyun.[43] On July 22, 2011, SHINee started their Japan Debut Premium Reception Tour. They performed at a number of concerts while touring various cities of Japan including Fukuoka on July 22, Kobe on July 23, Tokyo on July 27 and 28, Sapporo on August 8 and Nagoya on August 11, 2011.
On August 8, 2011, EMI Music Japan revealed the music video for the Japanese version of "Juliette" through their official YouTube channel.[44] The single was released in Japan on August 28, 2011. On September 2, 3 and 4, 2011, SHINee is participated in the second Japan leg of SMTown Live '10 World Tour and performed in three concerts at Tokyo Dome inTokyo.[45] On September 10, 2011, the group also performed in a concert at Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore as a part of their Singapore leg of Shinee World tour. The production cost for the concert was around $1.7 million.[46]
On September 9, 2011, EMI Music Japan tweeted that SHINee will be releasing their third Japanese single "Lucifer" on October 12, 2011.[47] This news has been confirmed on their official Japanese homepage.[48] The official music video for the Japanese version on Lucifer was released to the public October 2nd 2011, on Emi Music Japan's official YouTube channel.
Oh October 19, 2011. SHINee's previous Japanese singles "Replay" and "Juliette" along with the most recent "Lucifer" have all ranked in the TOP 3 on the Oricon singles weekly chart. This marks the first time for a foreign artist to achieve this mark, meaning SHINee has set a new record.
Furthermore, on Oricon’s main page, it read, "This is the first time in the 44 year history of the Oricon that a foreign artist (soloist included) released three different singles, and all 3 have ranked within the TOP 3″, making this achievement all the more significant.
On October 23, 2011. SHINee will be participating in the SM Town Live World Tour at Madison Square along with their labelmates, SNSD, Super Junior, BOA, F(x) and TVXQ as the first Asian Artist to perform there, due to their enormously succeed in the SM Town leg race in Seoul, Japan, Paris, etc.
SHINee's London concert tickets sell out in 1 minute! October 27, 2011. This will be the first time that a Korean artist will be holding an independent concert in London, and tickets for the show were sold out within a minute after going on sale at 1:00PM on the 27th. There was so much demand that the servers began to crash immediately after the tickets were up for sale. The sales site for London’s largest theater, Odeon, was down for five hours. It was also impossible to purchase theater tickets on the numerous other sites that were selling the theater tickets online. Fans began calling in over the phone to obtain their tickets, as well as going to the theater in person to try and purchase their tickets.
A representative from Odeon remarked, "This is the first time our server went down. We didn’t know so many people would try to purchase the tickets all at once." Odeon Theater will be enforcing heavy security the day of the event for the safety of the fans and SHINee themselves.
